For over a decade now, the artist Franziska Schenk has explored the complex inter-relationships between fine art painting and the natural sciences.
The natural world provides the focus for an in depth investigation of universal natural principles - namely evolution, fossilisation, predation and camouflage.
This, in turn, has led Schenk to probe the fluid boundaries between representation and abstraction: dovetailing the romantic and scientific, the micro- and macro cosmos, the ancient and modern, old-masterly techniques and latest paint technology.
